Heather Johnson

CLINICAL COUNSELLOR

Bachelor of Theology and Intercultural Studies
Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Heather grew up in northern Illinois, USA, and after earning a bachelor’s degree in theology and intercultural studies, moved to Mongolia in 2014. There she taught English for four years at a children’s shelter, where she witnessed the deep effects of abandonment, abuse, and neglect. These experiences, along with a growing sense of calling to pursue counseling, led her to return to the United States in 2018 to pursue further training.

Heather earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Atlanta, Georgia, along with a certification in trauma counseling. She is certified in Georgia as an Associate Professional Counselor. After graduating in 2022, she returned to Mongolia, where she provided counseling to teenagers from the same children’s shelter as well as with missionaries living in Mongolia. In 2024, she became the director of a local NGO serving families in poverty and at-risk teens, and in spring of 2025 she joined The Well’s remote team.

Heather practices from a trauma-informed perspective and often incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while recognizing that each person has unique needs and may benefit from different therapeutic approaches. Above all, she believes the counseling relationship and a client’s sense of safety are the foundation of meaningful and effective therapy.
