M.A. Clinical Counseling
Ruth hails from East Malaysia, but having grown up as an MK in the Sahara Desert of West Africa, hardly calls it home. She then went even further away from “home” and studied in the United States. Ruth’s heart and passion for youth brought her to the Clinical Counseling Program at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. There she focused her studies on adolescents and family systems. During her time at CIU she gained experience working with grief and loss, as well as adolescents. All the while, she was working as a youth leader in her church. Following her studies, Ruth went back to serve as a missionary in West Africa. Though her role was not to be a formal counselor at the missions school for the next three years, in working with boarding students and youth groups, Ruth had the opportunity to mentor and disciple many MKs.
Ruth moved to Thailand in 2014 to join the Member Care team at The Well. God has placed in her a love for missionaries, especially their kids. She desires to see MKs thriving on the mission field, and families that are working together to serve God wherever He has called them as a unit.
In addition to MKs, Ruth sees a wide range of clients as she offers debriefing and counseling in topics such as burnout, stress, grief, and relational challenges. In her counseling Ruth seeks to bring healing and hope.
